I think that this is an interesting situation. To provide support and identity to those who have none is quite obviously a positive thing. However, reading the article, you have to wonder if the positives are at all relevant when the negatives are taken into account. The relationship he describes between the parents and the children is very impersonal and this could have a lasting affect on the children right into adulthood. Emotional connections between people are very important within society and these children aren't even forming particularly strong emotional bonds with their parents. Also, this setup seems to lack strict sanctions. In the part where he speaks about the young girl who was abused, there didn't seem to be anyone willing to enforce a sanction of any description. This is negative in the way that unacceptable behaviours aren't being shown as unacceptable.
From that mans experience he seemed to think he'd missed out on that vital growing up time. I strongly believe that if it's a safe thing to do then children should be with their parents as much as possible. The majority are bought up that way and they haven't ended up that badly!
